Special Education

Special Education Links:

Special Education offers two master's degrees (a Master of Education and a Master of Science) and a PhD to individuals interested in working with children and youth with cognitive or behavioral disabilities who deviate so far from average that they do not profit adequately from mainstream educational programs, even with modifications and adaptations.

M.Ed. is a professional degree intended to prepare teachers of students with disabilities. M.Ed. candidates are trained in empirically validated behavior management techniques and instructional design, proven teaching methods, and assessment appropriate for effective work with children and youth with cognitive and emotional disabilities at all age levels and degrees of severity. The M.S. and Ph.D. academic degrees are intended to prepare researchers and college and university teachers emphasizing special education.
