Masters Degree
The masters of science degree program in Health Policy and Administration is designed to prepare individuals for academic research or research/analytic work in nonacademic settings. The objective of the program is to teach the skills of health services research that enable graduates to conduct data analyses that support planning, policy development, evaluation, and/or administration in a variety of health care settings.
Graduates of the M.S. program secure positions as research analysts in managed care organizations, government agencies, businesses, and health care organizations. Graduates are well prepared to serve as health services research support staff and can earn needed skills to begin and make rapid progress toward a Ph.D.
Doctoral Degree
The mission of the Ph.D. program in Health Policy and Administration is to advance multidisciplinary education and scholarship in health services research. This includes basic and applied inquiry that examines access to and the use, costs, quality, organization, delivery, financing, and outcomes of health services for individuals and populations. Students become literate in health economics and organizational theory, competent in advanced research methods and statistics, and expert in an emphasis are of their choice. The program helps prepare graduates for teaching and research careers in academic and policy research settings.
Ph.D. students need strong analytical ability and substantive interest in health policy and administration. Course work focuses on research in the organization, financing, use, and evaluation of health services with instruction in the health services system, health and illness, health policy, health services administration, and research methods.
