What is Agricultural and Extension Education (AEE)?

AEE Students are prepared to enter careers involving education in the field of food, agriculture, and natural resources in formal and non-formal settings. These settings may include, but are not limited to, secondary high schools, youth-based agencies, Cooperative Extension as well as business and industry. Students can choose one of three options including production agriculture, environmental science, or leadership development and communication. Minors are also available in Youth and Family Education, Community and Civic Engagement, Leadership Development, Agricultural Communications, and International Agriculture.

Career directions with a B.S.:

Agricultural educators are needed in Pennsylvania, throughout the nation, and in most foreign countries to teach agriculture in public high school programs. Graduates may also qualify to teach environmental education and general science. Many graduates find employment with Cooperative Extension, youth and family based organizations, business, and governmental agencies. Graduates are also employed in managerial, sales, and public relations sectors.

Career directions with a graduate degree:

After advanced study, graduates with a PhD in AEE seek positions as faculty in agricultural and the human sciences at universities and colleges, in non-governmental organizations both in the United States and internationally, and government agencies as well as in public education and administration. Master's students in AEE find positions in both formal and non-formal education settings.
