Level II Funding

Structure for Level II Proposals

Proposals should not exceed 5 pages and should include the following sections:

  1. Identifying Information:
You must include contact information for all investigators, including the lead investigator and collaborating investigators. See the Word document for specific information required. Collaborating investigators should indicate their support of the project by sending email to the lead investigator, who will then include these emails as a proposal attachment.
  2. Abstract:
Provide a succinct overview of the proposal. It may be helpful to review examples of successful Level II proposals. Proposals should not assume that reviewers or readers have technical knowledge in a specific field, and should avoid or explain technical jargon or field-specific terminology or acronyms.
  3. Specific aims and objectives:
List the specific aims and objectives of the proposal and how the accomplishment of these objectives will inform the development of a project for external funding.
  4. Brief background, rationale, and description of methods:
Provide a brief summary of the background and rationale for the proposal, and a specific description of the methods and activities for which support is requested.
  5. Relevance to the CYFC:
Describe how the proposal will contribute to the CYFC mission, goals, and priority themes.
  6. Anticipated outcomes:
Describe the anticipated outcomes in operational terms. The plans for specific outcomes should be specified (later grant submission, outreach program). Proposals for the development of infrastructure or training must include the plans for dissemination and outreach (anticipated dates, methods for dissemination, audience targeted). If the plan involves any type of working group or conference, the target audience must be specified and a letter indicating interest in participation is needed.
  7. External Funding Sources:
If the plans are for later external funding, proposals must include the investigators involved, the title and time frame for the proposal, and the external funding sources to be targeted.
  8. Timeline:
Describe the anticipated timeline to accomplish the goals of the proposal.
  9. Personnel:
The roles of the lead investigator, the collaborating investigator(s), and any other personnel should be described. For key personnel, titles and brief descriptions of their expertise should be included.
  10. Budget and Justification:
An itemized budget must be included, along with budget justification. If salary or wages for personnel are included, information about base salary should be provided. This section should also list your departmental budget information needed to transfer the money awarded to you. At minimum, include the name and phone number of your department's budget coordinator. If available to you, the following information should also be included: budget and fund number, and administrative area number.
