Co-Funding of Faculty
Unsuccessful Searches
Positions Not Filling After the Second Search
If a co-funded position is not successfully filled after a second year of searching, departments must formally re-apply for continuation of the position. The formal request must be reviewed by the CYFC Steering Committee and Oversight Committee, who will determine whether or not to allow for a third year extension for the search.
Formal Request for Continuation of Co-Funded Search
The formal request for continuation of a co-funded search must be in writing signed by the Department Head and Dean. We encourage on-going discussion with the CYFC in the preparation of this request. However, it is important to be clear that the "burden of proof" for continued viability and fundability lies with the Department Head and Dean.
The following 5 issues should be addressed in the request:
- Statement of reason(s) for unsuccessful searches.
- Statement of how these reasons will be addressed in any re-submission.
- Strategic considerations that significantly improve the likelihood of a successful hire on the third search.
- Changes that will be made in the searching strategy (e.g., changes in the announcement or description, casting a wider net, targeted searching via colleagues)?
- Changes that will be made in the departmental/college support for the position that may increase the likelihood of a successful hire.
The CYFC will review the request, contact the Department Head and/or Dean with any questions, and make one of the following determinations:
- Extend support for a third year of searching.
- Request a revised proposal, with CYFC concerns and suggestions identified.
- Terminate CYFC co-support for the proposed search and position.
Deadline for Submission
July 30th of each year.
CYFC Decision Timeframe
