Attachment 2: Guidelines for Co-funded Faculty Proposals

  • Proposals for each position should not exceed 3-4 pages.
  • Deadline for submission to Deans: TBA for 2009.
  • Deadline for submission from Deans to CYFC Director: TBA for 2009.
  • Sections to include in the proposal:
    1. CYFC priority area targeted by the proposed position.

      Which of the 4 CYFC priority themes is this hire going to address?

      It may be helpful to review examples of successful co-funded faculty proposals.

    2. Description of the position.

      Provide the specifics of how a priority area will be represented in the position.

    3. Justify why the position is best supported in a specific department/unit, and how the position would contribute to the department and College.

      Discuss how this position would meet specific departmental needs in the areas of research, outreach, and teaching. Refer to the College and department strategic plans and discuss how this position would fit within the department from an organizational standpoint. Please discuss how placing this position in the department would create a cluster of expertise or relate to already existing faculty.

    4. Description of how the position would facilitate interdisciplinary connections to strengthen Penn State efforts in research, outreach, and teaching in a CYFC priority theme area.

      Describe how the position will interrelate with an interdisciplinary (cross-department, cross-college) network. Specify the ways in which the faculty member's activities (teaching, research, and service) might bridge across departmental lines.

    5. Statement of support from the Dean.

      You must include a statement of support from the Dean, which includes an agreement of financial support to pay 50% of the salary and 50% of start-up costs.
